first_imgST EUNAN’S U14 Camogie girls have made history this evening by winning the club’s first county A Championship title in 40 years. The mothers of some of the players on this young team weren’t even born the last time the black and amber brought this title home to the Cathedral Town. The St Eunan’s girls caused a sensation by beating Burt by seven points in this evening’s final played in Carndonagh. First half goals from Eadaoin Kelly and Sally Hannigan rocked hot hot favourites Burt who went in at the break scoreless thanks, in the main, to a battling Eunan’s defence. With the wind at their backs, Burt – with 12 county players on their panel – began to attack again at the start of the second half but saw their efforts thwarted.Eventually they did find the net to reduce matters to a single goal. But St Eunan’s went up the other end where Katherine Kelly, a star of the county U14 and club football teams, managed to kick a wonderful point over the bar from all of 25 metres. St Eunan’s defence stood solid, before Laura Kealy sealed the victory with the Letterkenny club’s third goal and a 3-01 to 1-00 win.It was a battling effort from Burt, the premier club at this level for so many years in Donegal. But the St Eunan’s team were deserved winners, winning key battles in the midfield,  half-back and half-forward lines. After a cavalcade through Letterkenny this evening, Eunan O’Donnell from hurling minor board congratulated the players on their historic victory – which they now add to their All-Ireland Feile title won in Co Derry in June.He had particular words of thanks for the camogie team manager and Kilkenny native Joe Kealy and his work with the U12s, U14s and U16s at St Eunan’s. “The future for St Eunan’s camogie teams is very bright indeed,” said Eunan.“Tonight this group of girls under Joe Kealy have made history, bringing this title back here to St Eunan’s and to Letterkenny for the first time in 45 years.”Commiserations to Burt and their management team.THE HISTORY GIRLS AS ST EUNAN’S U14 CAMÓGS WIN FIRST COUNTY TITLE IN 40 YEARS was last modified: September 4th, 2015 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:BURTcamogiehistoryletterkennySt Eunanslast_img read more
